What is this NVQ and what are the units?

This NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management is a work-based qualification suitable for those in a construction management role, which recognises a person’s competence using on the job performance for assessment, rather than relying on examinations. You will use an online system to help you with the process of putting together your portfolio and will be assisted online by an experienced assessor throughout. You will also be assessed within the workplace and take part in a professional discussion.

The main plus points are:

  • No formal examination,
  • Flexible workplace study – earn while you learn
  • Continuous enrolment, start any time
  • Equivalent to an academic qualification

NVQ’s are designed to be taken at a pace that suits your needs, so many learners take about six months to a year to complete. They are outcome-based with no fixed learning programme, allowing flexibility of delivery to meet your individual needs. To earn a qualification, you must complete mandatory units, and the overall qualification allows learners to demonstrate competence again National Occupational Standards which are based on the needs of the Construction and Built Environment industry as defined by ConstructionSkills, the Sector Skills Council. As such it contributes to the development of skilled labour in the sector.

There are 4 mandatory units & 4 optional units for this Level 6 Diploma:

Mandatory:
1.Maintain health, safety and welfare systems in construction

2.Manage the performance of teams and individuals in construction
3.Chair meetings and take decisions in construction

4.Enhance working relationships in construction

Then only FOUR of the following units from Pathway 5: General:
1.Specify and control production documents in construction
2.Optimise and control contract progress and costs in construction
3.Prepare and agree contract accounts and claims in construction
4.Identify, assess and evaluate project requirements in construction
5.Prepare procurement schedules and programmes of work in construction
6.Evaluate and confirm work methods and programme in construction
7.Plan measured surveys in construction
8.Ascertain the condition of property in construction
9.Develop and agree detailed project designs in construction
10.Implement strategic and integrated supply chain management and sourcing partnerships in construction
11.Obtain tenders and appoint successful contractors in construction
12.Evaluate enquiries and submit tenders in construction
13.Analyse, monitor and optimise materials, plant and services in construction
14.Control contract work in construction

How much does it cost?

The cost of the qualification is £1100 +VAT (a total of £1,320).

You can apply for a RED TRAINEE CSCS Card when you prove you are enrolled on a Construction Manager NVQ (subject to passing the MAPS CSCS Test).
