Who is this Course For?

This site supervision safety training scheme (SSSTS) course is designed for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities.

This two-day course provides supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It will highlight the requirement to promote Health & Safety to supervise effectively.

This course is endorsed by UKCG as the standard training for all supervisors working on UKCG sites.


It is designed to help supervisors to:

  • Supervise health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions and within the context of their role.
  • Develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety and welfare of workers on site recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical, productive and environmentally friendly.
  • The course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries.
  • It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.

This is an interactive course covering these topic areas. Delegates will be involved in GROUP project work that will include risk assessments and toolbox talks.

Core Exercises

The following exercises are completed in order to assess the skills and knowledge of the participants to create a safe environment within the workplace. The construction site drawings, tasks and projects are designed to be used as reference material for the core exercises

The exercises are as followed:

  • Legal requirements regarding health and safety
  • Regulations and health and safety acts
  • Guidance notes and approved codes of practice
  • The types of accidents that occur within the construction industry, what causes them and how they can be prevented.


The final examination for this SSSTS course will consist of a multiple choice exam of 30 questions. If you are successful in passing this exam, you will be awarded with a CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme Certificate.

The qualification will remain valid for five years. After this point, it can be re-qualified by attending one day SSSTS Refresher course.

Am I Suitable?

  • Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a supervisor.
  • Delegates must be competent in English at site supervisor level.
  • Photo ID will be required to attend the course, such as a copy of your passport or driving licence.
